Dave Rogowski Should Have Been End Game
November 2, 2021
In season 3 of Gilmore Girls, Lane Kim shows her love for music and shows interest in joining a band. When Dave Rogowski had an opening for a drummer in his band he happily joined. Little did they know this would lead them to a happy and healthy relationship.
People who have been watching the show since the beginning know Lane’s mom (Mrs.Kim) is not the most lenient when it comes to boys. But Dave doesn’t care, this really means a lot to Lane, because past boy interests have ended things because it was too much.
One night when Dave plays music for Lane’s mom he “forgets” his bible. They use it as an excuse for Lane to see him privately. “The whole night I had no idea she’d make you play five straight hours without a break,” Lane tells him, but he is fine with it. She asks him, “after all this: the marathon hymns, the weak punch, the crabby Koreans, you still want to go out on a date with me?” Dave then kisses Lane.
Even though they had to keep their relationship a secret from their bandmates and Lane’s mom in the beginning, they still found time to be a thing. Lane would refer to him as “my Dave”.
Dave cares so much for Lane. He respects Mrs.Kim too, when they found out that Lane had to go to prom with someone who was not Dave he gets into a suit and talks to Mrs.Kim. He comes into her house and tells her:
“A few weeks ago you told me that Lane had a crush on me. Well, I have a crush on her, too. Now, I know you have very strict rules about dating and boys, but I just want you to know that I’m a good person. I don’t smoke, I don’t drink, I’ve never gotten a ticket, I’m healthy, I take care of myself, I floss. I never watch more than 30 minutes of television a night partly because I think it’s a waste of time and partly because there’s nothing on. I respect my parents, I do well in school, I never play video games in case they do someday prove that playing them can turn you into a serial killer. I don’t drink coffee. I hate soda because the carbonation freaks me out. I’m happy to give up meat if you feel strongly about it. I don’t mind wearing a tie. I enjoy playing those hymns on my guitar, and I really, really want to take your daughter to the prom.”
Mrs.Kim responded with something Dave and Lane did not understand. They think it’s something from the bible.
Dave stayed up all night and read the bible to figure out if it was a yes or a no. He goes back to Lane’s house to ask her what she meant. It was not in the bible she tells it was from Shakespeare. She is very impressed with Dave for reading the whole bible in one night. She approves of them going to prom together.
Sadly once high school ended Dave moved away and went to college. We don’t hear much about him but we know they end up breaking up and Lane falls for her bandmate, Zach. It’s good for people to be able to move and follow the things they want to do. Dave was willing to learn about Lane’s family’s religion and culture, their love for one another was so strong. They should have been endgame.
