House of Gucci was an extremely interesting watch, with many plot twists and some action scenes sprinkled throughout. Directed by the notable Ridley Scott who has produced such works as Robin Hood (2010) and Alien (1979), he was able to create something truly special. While it may not be everybody’s cup of tea, House Of Gucci really was a work of art in my opinion.

The movie is based on real-life events and internal struggles that the Gucci family faced from the early 1970s until the mid-1990s. It follows the life of the infamous Patrizia Gucci, a complex woman who married into one of the wealthiest families in the world at the time. However, Patrizia Gucci’s early life was not a life filled with such vast wealth.

In 1972 Patrizia then had the last name Reggiani, she was a beautiful young Italian woman who enjoyed a simple life as an accountant for her father’s trucking company. Her life continued like this until one day while attending a party, everything changed. Patrizia met her future husband Maurizio Gucci, a charming young man who was the only child and heir to his father’s vast fortune.

Patrizia grows fond of him, and they fall in love, marrying shortly after in the same year. This period of tranquility is short-lived, however, after Maurizio takes over the company. The couple has many marital troubles, resulting in infidelity, separation, and finally murder…

Maurizio Gucci is played by Adam Driver, his father Rodolfo Gucci is played by Jeremy Irons, and Lady Gaga plays Patrizia Gucci. This cast is fantastic, and the number of great actors does not end there. Maurizio Gucci’s uncle,  Aldo Gucci is played by perhaps the most iconic actor of all time, Al Pachino. Aldo Gucci’s eccentric and hilarious son Paolo was played by actor Jared Leto.

While the movie had a lot going for it, sometimes the movie was very confusing and the plot jumped around a lot. The ending came too quickly, with the climax of the story being fairly unclear. This does not mean that the movie was bad though, and I still liked it overall. So in conclusion,  if you’re looking for a dramatic new movie, see House of Gucci in theatres now!
