Bookish Gifts for the Holidays

Emma Douglass and Ryley Douglass

The holiday season is a crazy time full of gift giving, getting gifts, and spending time with friends and family. However, sometimes finding gifts to give people can prove difficult, and tedious.

If you’re looking for a meaningful gift for your bookish bestie or family member, you have many options– you could go with getting them a book, something that they’re sure to appreciate, or you could get them an accessory to add to their collection of bookish items.

Some great books to give someone for the holidays are BookTok sensation Chloe Gong’s books. Her new release, Foul Lady Fortune is a hit, and there are multiple editions of it. Her other two books, These Violent Delights, and Our Violent Ends are also great gifts. There are also various collectors editions of these books for someone who is already a fan. Chloe Gong has a writing style that really hits home with many people who are familiar with young adult fantasy literature, very poetic and beautiful. Her characters are created so realistically even though they are in fantastical situations and a fictional world.

Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse Is a series consisting of the Shadow and Bone Trilogy, the Six of Crows Duology, and the King of Scars Duology. There are also two other books, the Language of Thorns, and The Lives of Saints. These are essential on any reader’s bookshelf, and work as amazing gifts for Christmas, especially for someone looking to get into the fantasy genre!

In addition to Chloe Gong and Leigh Bardugo, Taylor Jenkins Reid is another author who has gained a platform on TikTok with her hit novels The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Daisy Jones and the Six (which just so happens to be coming to Prime Video in March of 2023). Her books are a great gift for people who love learning about the lives of celebrities and the spotlight’s effect on people’s lives. Although her characters and their situations are purely fictional, the way Jenkins Reid writes makes you believe that they are real, which is an excellent form of escapism. And if you don’t think that your loved one would appreciate a physical book, if they’re too busy to read, all of her audiobooks are phenomenal. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Malibu Rising, Carrie Soto is Back, and specifically Daisy Jones and the Six are some of the best audiobooks I have ever listened to, taking me to a different world while I do my chores or crochet a sweater. Daisy Jones and the Six is special because it is narrated by a full cast, each character having a different narrator. It really takes you into the world of rock and roll documentary transcript style that it was written in.

But if you’re looking to gift books that are geared more towards the romantic, we have even more books that we’ve loved to suggest. To start off, Helen Hoang, the author of The Kiss Quotient, is a popular author on BookTok whose books are excellent for gift giving. Her books are excellent representations of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Another great author is Emily Henry. Her bestselling novel “Book Lovers” is perfect for a friend who is a fan of romance, and she has lots of other amazing books to give your book lover friend!

Aside from just books, there are also a lot of fun bookish things to get someone for the holidays! One obvious thing is a bookmark, but there are also other options. Book sleeves are a creative gift, especially if you are crafty and are looking for ways to spend less for holiday gifts. If you’re into making gifts yourself, crocheting is a fantastic option and very affordable to start. Also, merchandise from someone’s favorite book series, and candles scented like book characters are also great options!

There are endless possibilities for bookish gifts, and these are only a few of so many things to give a loved one for the holidays this year!
