How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is one of my all time favorite movies. I can watch it no matter what mood I am in. Happy? Watch How to Lose a Guy in 10 days. Sad? Watch How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. It is a fun loving romantic comedy that I can always rely on to bring me comfort.

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, directed by Donald Petrie, is a 2003 romantic comedy that stars Kate Hudson, who plays Andie, and Matthew McConaughey, who plays Ben. It all starts when Andie’s friend Michelle gets broken up with and talks to Andie for support. Michelle describes her relationship and how sweet she was and how she was always around. This sparks an idea for Andie. Andie is a writer for a woman’s magazine called Composure, where she specializes in the subject matter of a series of  “How to” articles. After listening to Michelle, Andie decides to write an article demonstrating how to lose a guy in 10 days. Her boss loves the idea, and gives it the okay.

On the other side, Ben is an advertising executive who is taking on a diamond advertising campaign. Ben’s friend Phillip questions if Ben knows how to be romantic like diamonds are portrayed. Ben’s response to his friend’s challenge is that he can make any girl fall in love with him. Andie and Ben then attend the same party, as strangers. Judy Green and Judy Spears, other writers of Composure, are sitting at Ben’s table making conversation. This is when Ben makes his proposition, that he can make any girl fall in love with him. He asks for the people at his table to pick a girl out of the crowd. Both Judy’s spot Andie in the crowd, and suggests her to Ben. Ben accepts the challenge, thinking it was going to be easy.

During their “relationship”, Andie is trying her best to be as clingy as possible. She shows up to his apartment unannounced, moves some of her things into his apartment, even suggests couples counseling. Ben on the other hand is trying his best to deal with Andie’s annoying antics. He constantly puts up with her cleanliness and out of the blue suggestions. The “couple” goes on like this for days, until Andie does something that Ben can’t just brush off his shoulder. Ben is playing poker with his friends and Andie once again shows up unannounced and embarrasses him in front of all his close friends. Ben responds to this by inviting Andie to meet his family down in Staten Island, thinking this will make her give up her act. Andie warily accepts and off they go. Staten Island is different for the couple. They end up forming a genuine bond and see each other for who they really are. Coming back from Staten Island, one night, everything changes.

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is the perfect feel good romantic comedy that I believe everyone can enjoy. It’s funny, heartfelt, and perfect to watch alone or with someone.
