If you’re like me, concerts are a fun outing, whether it be with friends or family. However, a big factor in the experience you get at a concert is the venue. Of course there are pros and cons to every venue, but here are some of my favorite venues in our area!
First is the Anthem in DC. The anthem is a relatively large venue, with the whole first floor being a standing area. The other floors feature seated areas with standing room behind them. This is a great venue for people with general admission, which is usually the cheaper option when buying tickets because many people go to the pit naturally, but going to the balconies gives a really great experience as well.
The Fillmore in Silver Spring, Maryland is another example of great value for your money. It is a lot smaller than the Anthem, but features a similar structure. There is a large pit on the first floor, and basically no seats on the second floor. However, it features a large balcony with multiple levels for a better view of the performer. This is great for anyone who likes being closer to the artist, since the venue is a lot smaller than the Anthem.
A much different venue is Union Stage in DC. This one is across the street from the Anthem, but harbors a very different structure and crowd. This is an incredibly small venue, with the whole venue being standing room. Generally for smaller artists, this is a very intimate venue, including a small bar and sitting area, even though it has a limited view.
Back to the larger venues, the 9:30 club is very similar to the Fillmore. It has a very large standing area, with a large balcony. The only main difference is that there are no seats at all, so the whole venue is standing room. The balcony is U shaped around the stage, and has steps to avoid an obstructed view. This is a great venue, and is in a much quieter location in DC than the other DC venues.
The last venue on this list is the Merriweather Post Pavilion. This one is unique compared to the other venues, because it has a very small pit and lots of seating. There is also a lawn, which is much different from the other venues that were all indoors. The Merriweather Post Pavilion has a very small pit, which is different from other venues since they are usually large pits with a small amount of seating. Uniquely, this causes the ticket prices for seats to cost much less than general admission tickets, which doesn’t happen often. This is a relatively large venue, and is about the same size as the Anthem.
These are just a few of the hundreds of concert venues in the area, but these are my favorite, and are definitely something to consider when planning your next concert outing!
