What does (Taylor’s Version) mean? It means that Taylor Swift is re-recording her first 6 albums that were stolen from her by her old record label. The owner of her old record label, Scooter Braun, sold Swift’s masters and she wasn’t allowed to buy it back without signing an NDA. So she did not buy it back because she would have to be forced to say nice things about him, Variety Magazine explains. She is now re-recording her first 6 albums and she is almost finished. She has re-released Fearless, Red, Speak Now, and now 1989. The only two albums that she is still awaiting to re-release is Reputation, and her Debut album ‘Taylor Swift’.
“So when something says in parentheses, Taylor’s Version next to it, that means I own it. Which is exciting.” Taylor Swift said on Late Night with Seth Meyers.
1989 was originally released October 27th, 2014, then re-released October 27th, 2023. Re-released with five new vault tracks and a deluxe version of the album that includes Bad Blood(Taylor’s Version)[Featuring Kendrick Lamar]. When it was originally released Swift was going through a lot physically and mentally. She says in her documentary ’Miss Americana’ on Netflix “[if] someone said I looked pregnant or something,[it] will just trigger me to starve a little bit. Just stop eating”. In the 1989 (Taylor’s Version) Prologue it says “I had become the target of slut shaming-the-intensity and relentlessness of which would be criticized and called out if it happened today”. Swift went on tour for 1989 in 2015 and it was one of her biggest tours until her most recent tour. Swift then still got hate and she ended up disappearing from the public eye in 2016. She was never seen in public for a whole year. When she returned to the public a year later, she released Reputation and went on tour for the album. Right after her Reputation Stadium tour, her masters was stolen.
In 2019 Taylor released Lover, then in 2020 released Folklore and Evermore. Then she started on her re-records in 2021, starting with Fearless(Taylor’s Version). Now in 2023, she has released 1989(Taylor’s Version).
I think 1989(Taylor’s Version) is such a great album because most of the songs are party songs and songs that make you just want to get up and dance. It was originally Swift’s first pop album and it changed her whole entire discography and what she was known for. The album’s re-release sounds so good because she has a more mature voice and new and improved vocals. It is really hard to pick just one song from the album to call it my favorite.
If I did have to choose a favorite it would be in between Out of the Woods, You are in love, and Wonderland. But some of my personal favorites from (Taylor’s Version) are Style (Taylor’s version) because the vocals impressed me so much, it sounds incredible, another one would be Is it Over Now(Taylor’s version)[From The Vault].
I think you should listen to this album because it makes me happy because most of the songs are upbeat. I also think you should listen to it because it sounds clear and mature, it includes new and improved vocals and a new and happy lifestyle. The re-release of 1989 re-invents the 1989 era, by it now representing happiness. Swift is now continuing her international tour, The Eras Tour. I hope you listen to it and love it as much as I do!
