The 49-year old rapper opened up a window service spaghetti restaurant on Woodward Avenue Detroit, MI shortly after his Super Bowl performance. The gag is based off of a lyric from one of his most popular songs, ‘Lose Yourself’ from the 8 Mile soundtrack. In the context of the movie it is about not ‘choking’ and giving it your all and putting yourself out there because this is your shot. It begins with a few lines reading, “His palms are sweaty/knees weak arms are heavy/ there’s vomit on his sweater already/ mom’s spaghetti.” The mom’s spaghetti piece is something that became a part of Eminem’s iconic legacy as well as just a symbol for him and his music.

Now this certainly is a strange decision, a stand-alone spaghetti restaurant in Detroit is odd. But the reality is, he’s always been odd, a vast majority of his financial decisions reflect his branded quirkiness and his oddities. His brisk commercial, his music certainly, and how he chooses to promote his music have always been a little off center, but that’s a very central part to this persona that he takes for his music.

Now at the restaurant you can get what you’d expect: spaghetti. There’s a limited menu including spaghetti and meatballs or without, as well as spaghetti Bolognese as well as sandwiches to go with the preceding. So if you’re ever cruising through the D’ and want to give it a try, hit up 2131 Woodward Avenue and try an odd combination of hip-hop and pasta.
