Crofton’s theater organization, the Cardinal Players, has moved on to their second performance of the school year- Broadway sensation Funny Girl. Their first show of the year, the magical Almost, Maine, was sweet and sad, funny and melancholy. It had 4 performances from November 10-13th and was an impressive start to the Cardinal Players’ 2022-23 season. Since then, they have begun production on the early spring musical, Funny Girl. Auditions were shortly after the Thanksgiving break, and rehearsals started almost immediately for opening night, February 24th.

Their next production, Funny Girl tells the story of an actress, Fanny Brice, who had been a crowd favorite on the stage and radio in the 1910s through her death in 1951. Fanny starts out with a small role on an off-Broadway stage, but is noticed for her talents by Florenz Ziegfeld, and is blasted to Broadway stardom. The musical covers her career and rocky personal relationships with vibrant, exciting songs and costumes, and witty quips that are sure to get the audience laughing.

Funny Girl will have seven performances from February 24th to March 4th. Tickets are now for sale on the Cardinal Players’ website, and can also be accessed through their social media. Keep an eye out for updates from their Instagram page, @cardinalplayers. Everyone is anxiously awaiting opening night, especially after last year’s success of Newsies!

The performers and the fantastic tech team are excited for everyone to see the show and their hard work. Caroline O’Neil, who will be performing as Mrs. Brice, says she can’t wait for everyone to watch the dancing and see the costumes. Jackson Smith, who will be playing the role of Heckie, says “it’s a very fun show, and [he’s] excited for it!” Anna Porter, who is playing the Funny Girl herself, Fanny Brice, is “excited for everyone to come see the show and all the hard work cast and crew have put into it.”

Make sure to grab a ticket to Funny Girl, Crofton’s next smash success!
