Books That are Guaranteed to Keep You Entertained During Spring Break

Ava Bromley, Senior Staff Writer

Spring break, for some, can be filled with amusing vacations to the beach or to the mountains, or to visit family and friends. Spring break for others can just be a well needed and well deserved break, like sitting at home reading books or watching movies. If you are like me, not going anywhere for spring break and are afraid of being bored, here are some book recommendations that are guaranteed to keep you entertained.

Normal People

Normal People is a 2018 novel written by Irish author, Sally Rooney. The novel tells the story of Marianne and Conell, two people who developed a  close relationship during the final days of secondary school. Once they both move on to college and careers, the two struggle to make sense of what their relationship is, and how they want it to be. I fell in love with this story when I first read this novel, I could not put it down. It still remains to this day as one of my favorite books.

Daisy Jones & The Six

Daisy Jones & The Six is a 2019 novel written by author Taylor Jenkins Reid. The novel is about a fictional band named “Daisy Jones & The Six” formed in the 1970s. The novel is in interview format, so you get the perspectives of each character. It follows the band through troubles, relationships, and creating music. This book was one of the most interesting books I have ever read, the story was incredible. This book made me fall in love with all the characters, and the end tore my heart apart. This is the kind of book that makes you feel like you are living in the story.

The Invisible Life of Addie Larue

The Invisible Life of Addie Larue is a 2020 fantasy novel by author V.E. Schwab. The novel follows a young French girl named Addie Larue who makes a bargain with a Dark God that makes her immortal, but along with this is a curse that everyone Addie meets forgets her, except for one. I recently read this novel over the winter, and I can not believe I had been putting it off for this long. I don’t usually read fantasy novels, but reading this book was one of the best decisions. It was intriguing, romantic, somber, it had everything I could have asked for, it was definitely a five star read.

Book Lovers

Book Lovers is a 2022 novel written by author Emily Henry. The book follows Nora Stephens, a throat-cut literary agent, who is at the top of her game, and Charlie Lastra, an editor of bestsellers. Nora has been through enough break-ups in her life to be the girl that men date before they settle down. Nora’s sister, Libby, convinces Nora to swap out her city life for a week in Sunshine Falls, North Carolina, in hopes that Nora will enjoy a romantic holiday. A surprise meets her down in Sunshine Falls. This book was the perfect romance novel. It’s like a rom com in a book. I love both Nora and Charlie, and found Nora very relatable. I enjoyed this book so much it got me out of my lengthy reading slump.

Malibu Rising

Malibu Rising is a 2021 novel written by none other than the fantastic author, Taylor Jenkins Reid. Her novels never disappoint me. The novel is a story about one unforgettable night in the life of the Riva family. One night each member of the family has the choice of what they want to keep from the place that made them, and what to leave behind. This book has a very complex, very interesting plot, very unlike anything I’ve read. It took me only 2 days to read this, I was so fascinated. The characters are all so different, but so loveable, yet in different ways. Now that the weather has started to get warmer, this book is the perfect choice.

Spring break doesn’t always mean filling your schedule to a T with fun activities. For some it could mean relaxing and just getting moments of rest. If you want to have fun and enjoy your spring break, but still rest, these books will take you on adventures while just laying on your couch.
