Teenagers usually like to play sports during their free time or as a way for them to hang out with their friends and get their minds off of their school work, but what inspires teenagers to take on their specific type of sports?
Freshman Logan Davis plays both baseball and football and the reason he is inspired to play is because he “wants to be like his father” who inspired him to play and “reach for his goals no matter what”.
The best way for him to remember a play before an upcoming game is by “going over hand signals with his coaches and reviewing the playbook to remember the plan.” The best advice that he ever received from his coaches was “take every opportunity to learn.”
He said he likes to motivate his teammates by telling them to “come to practice with a head up attitude” and “get ready to play harder next time.” After a loss he encourages them by telling them that “the next game will be different because next time we will be stronger and better than last time.” If one of his friends were new and did not know how to play these sports, he said he would help them get better by “personally teaching them the basic skills” and also help them by “introducing them to the coaches and the teammates to get them involved with others.”
Freshman Eli Worden plays football and said the reason why he wanted to play this sport was because his dad “played with him when he was little and taught him the rules and techniques.” He said the best way for him to remember a play before an upcoming game is by “studying the techniques on his own” and “going over the playbook with either his teammates or coaches.” The best piece of advice that he ever received from his coaches was “work hard and finish strong.”
After he and his teammates have lost a game, he likes to tell his teammates to “come to practice with a good mindset and get ready to take on any challenge.” The way he motivates his teammates is by “playing some young boys band music in the locker room to get his teammates hyped up before any upcoming game.” He also said that if his friend was new and needed help with learning how to play football, he would help them by “having a private training session with them” and then “have them do all sorts of training drills”.
Sophomore Cole Fotenos plays football and said the reason he is inspired to play this sport is because he “wants to be like Davante Adams” who is his favorite football player.
For Cole the best way to memorize the plays before an upcoming game is by “practicing with some flashcards to help him study the new moves”. He also said he “likes to go through the football playbook and memorize everything before he goes on a game.” The best piece of advice he ever received from his coaches was “focus, fight and finish.” The way he keeps his teammates feeling positive after a loss is by “making them do sprints to get them better at playing upcoming games.” To keep his teammates motivated he said he likes to “play the best music in the locker room to get them hyped up.”
He also said that if one of his friends were new and didn’t know how to play this sport then he would personally help them without hesitation and he would help them by “making them do football drills.”
