Support is defined as an act of helping someone or something in an emotional or practical way. The Crofton community is centered around support and encourages students and staff of Crofton High School to support each other as well.
The Crofton High School sports community is a major part of community support with encouraging support amongst teammates and coaches. The Crofton High School Coed Wrestling teams show support through putting their teammates first and valuing the team dynamic.
The Crofton High School Coed Wrestling teams, with, share a different type of team dynamic than other CHS sports programs. Their team prioritizes unity and selflessness rather than internal competition for individual accomplishments.
Crofton High School wrestlers express how they feel about showing support for their team and balancing the coed team dynamic.
¨I´d say the team is evenly balanced in terms of respect we have for each other and coed dynamic. From what I can tell, nobody assumes that just because they’re going to wrestle a girl, it’s going to be easy. I´ve made some really good friends on the team and we are closer than ever. We all have a motto that we say, and it’s called EO. It stands for ¨each other¨ because we do everything for each other, and we are there for each other, and I think that’s the best way to show support.¨, said junior Grace Ackermann, JV coed wrestler.
“Yes most of our teammates that are girls will either practice with guys or girls depending on which they prefer but most of the time it’s just about whoever they feel comfortable drilling with. Our wrestling team’s motto is EO which stands for each other. Whether it’s cheering on your teammate after they win or lose or pointing out something they did good or bad, everyone is always there for each other”, said freshman Brennan Chase, JV coed wrestler.
There are additional challenges that come with having a coed sports team, like maintaining equal treatment and teammate or coach relationships. But the Crofton High School sports community makes it a priority to provide equality in coed team environments, such as the CHS wrestling teams.
