Starting on Friday, March 1, Crofton High School student athletes began their 2024 spring tryouts. The spring sports at CHS are boys baseball, coed bocce, boys lacrosse, girls lacrosse, girls softball, boys tennis, coed tennis, girls tennis, boys track, and coed track.
Any sports tryouts can be scary for a player and cause them to experience levels of stress. However, tryouts can also cause excitement for the upcoming sports season. Tryouts at CHS are typically less than a week and the last day for placements used to determine who makes the team or not. Crofton High School spring sport athletes share their thoughts.
“I am very excited for the spring season! I love sports, they keep my endorphins high and I find my grades are better during sports season. I’m feeling a bit nervous but also very confident. I have a good feeling that if I try my best the coaches will see that. I’m not very stressed out because everyone on the track team has been so kind and reassuring at the captains practices.” said Freshman Caroline Smith, who was trying out for coed track.
“Tryouts have been a fun experience and I’ve met new people I’ve never talked to before. At first, I was nervous but captains on the team and other people on the team helped me ease my nerves.” said Freshman Gavin Sanderson trying out for varsity tennis.
“I was fairly nervous for tryouts, but mainly just because of the run tests. And yes I’m really excited for the season. I think it´ll be fun and I like all the girls on our team.” said Sophomore Penny Surlis trying out for girls lacrosse.
Some could argue that fall or winter sports are the better time for a sports season or the better sport season in general. But all of the sports seasons have their advantages and disadvantages and all bring success and pride to Crofton High School’s reputation.
The spring sports this year at Crofton High School made it clear that nerves might get a hold of people at the start, but the outcome of working hard and trying outweighs them at the finish line.
