This past spring sports season at Crofton High School was nothing short of success for Crofton athletics for all of its spring sports. However, Bocce Ball at CHS is one to highlight. Bocce Ball has had an amazing spring season bringing aspects of our school like inclusivity and unity to play on the field as shown by their win at the county championships where they earned the gold award.
During the 2023-24 school year Crofton High School was awarded the label of a Unified School, an official title for schools that display effective inclusivity socially and through school programs. As an inclusive school CHS is known for its successful sports seasons throughout the school year.
Bocce Ball is generally known as the most inclusive sport at Crofton High School. This is because it is a low maintenance sport that doesn’t require very demanding exercise and is used by many Crofton athletes as an opportunity to do a sport during their off season in between sports seasons. So, Bocce Ball includes and welcomes all students to join the team and have fun for the spring season as a unified sport.
Crofton Bocce players share their thoughts.
“The bocce season is very inclusive and it’s a very fun team to be on and a really fun experience to have. Going to county’s was very fun, the bus ride there was very fun too, the bus ride home after we had won was awesome. I would recommend doing bocce because you make friends and everyone is just so nice to you and they’re all caring and everyone just respects you.” said Freshman JV soccer player, Reygan Sommerville.
“I had a very good experience this season although I did not go to counties. I also play soccer as my main sport.” said Sophomore JV soccer player Alex Williams.
“I had a lot of fun with my buddies. It was definitely a highlight of this school year. I had a good time with the other schools and our team. I also wrestle as another sport.” said Sophomore JV wrestler Brady Tilton.
Overall, Bocce Ball is a positive representation of the values of unity and inclusivity that Crofton High School displays as a Unified school and should be considered as an opportunity to have fun during the spring sports season.
