On Thursday March 5, after a lengthy and grilling investigation, President Trump announced the firing of Secretary Kristi Noem as head of the Department of Homeland Security.
Starting this week the House of Representatives, along with the House Judiciary Committee, initiated an investigation on Noem’s actions as Homeland Security Secretary, eventually leading to impeachment files and her ultimate removal from office. The House accused her of obstructing Congress from visiting I.C.E. facilities, lying under oath, the use of $220 million in government funds for advertisements, and many more violations regarding her role in the killing of two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis protests.
Since January 2026, Congress has been demanding an investigation on Noem’s actions following the deaths of two Minneapolis citizens shot dead by I.C.E. agents. Noem’s cognition and ability to appropriately answer questions were eventually evaluated during hearings on March 3 and 4, in which she had difficulty answering yes or no questions and complying with Congressional questioning. This behavior may have been perceived by President Trump as unfit for her position, most likely leading to her firing on March 5 via a True Social post. Whether or not that was the push for the President’s removal of Noem or a comment she made dragging the President into her public incrimination during her investigation remains unclear.
